About the book

  • Inspired by real rumors that circulated when she was a child, Valérie Fontaine captures just how much kids love to swap scary stories and spread rumors far and wide. The main character leads her investigation with determination and remarkable self-assurance.
  • The story is punctuated with color illustrations to encourage young readers. Lili Grand’s artwork transports readers to the heart of the action taking place in the charming town.
  • This 80-page short novel is intended for children between the ages of 8 and 10 who are comfortable reading but still appreciate the support that illustrations provide.
  • This new collection features characters from the early readers collection Stories for Reading—just slightly older and with more developed storylines.
  • The Sorbet collection was designed with input from a speech-language pathologist. The stories follow a five-act narrative structure, and contain a rich, varied vocabulary. The glossary at the end of the book helps prepare children for reading.
